Have you ever been dreaming a terrible dream–realized you were dreaming–and consciously changed your dream? That has happened to me a handful of times. That is why I really identified with the book The Four Agreements. Written by Don Miguel Ruiz, a spiritual Nagual, the book contains ancient Toltec Wisdom about how to live a happy, fulfilled life–and I love it!
In fact, I’ve been applying the principles with great success and plan to write about each of the principles in an individual post. But for now I just want to say that if you don’t like your life, change your dream. What does that mean? It means that you are the one that writes the rules for your life. Over the years you have made certain agreements based on your society, culture, religion, parents, friends, etc. and made these your “Book of Laws.” Every time you violate one of these “adopted” or “self-imposed” laws/agreements, your Inner Judge attacks making you feel guilty for your transgression. If you change your agreements, you change the Book of Laws that govern your life and your inner judge can be quieted. You are free to write your own laws and if your laws honor certain true principles–like the Four Agreements–you will be happy. According to the Toltecs, these are the Four Agreements you should start with:
